What the Final Interchange Changes for a Route
Clear Path 465 rebuilds and widens 4.5 miles of I-465 between the White River and Fall Creek. The project also reconfigures the I-465/I-69 interchange and reconstructs I-69 between I-465 and 82nd Street.
The project reports more than 90 percent complete, and construction is scheduled to wrap up in late 2026.
The finished I-465 carries four mainline through lanes in each direction from the White River to 56th Street. Auxiliary lanes sit between interchanges for traffic that enters and exits.
A new two-lane ramp makes the direct connection from eastbound I-465 to northbound I-69. A separate ramp carries eastbound I-465 traffic out to 82nd Street. Northbound Binford Boulevard traffic splits, with the left two lanes running to northbound I-69 and the right lane running to westbound I-465 and 82nd Street.
More than 100,000 vehicles pass through the interchange daily. That figure sits on the project's FAQ page.
Two Movements Still to Open
Two milestones remain. The project lists the new ramp from eastbound I-465 to northbound I-69 and the new ramp from northbound Binford Boulevard to westbound I-465 as on track for completion by late 2026.
The ramp from northbound Binford Boulevard to westbound I-465 stays shut under a long-term closure notice. The project states that several traffic pattern changes must happen before it reopens, and it publishes no date.
INDOT awarded the first contract to a tri-venture of E&B Paving, Rieth-Riley Construction and Gradex in December 2021, and construction began in March 2022. INDOT awarded the second contract in early 2023, and construction on it began the same year.
The project attributes the rebuild to insufficient capacity, peak-hour backups and a high volume of crashes inside the work area. The FAQ puts the cost at $500 million with a $70 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant awarded in 2021.
Staging Overnight Near the Airport
Indianapolis International Airport sits 18.3 miles (29.5 km) from the I-69 alignment at Castleton on a straight-line measure taken from OpenStreetMap coordinates. The project publishes no drive-time figure for that run.
Closure work runs overnight, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. A group that stages on the airport side for a morning arrival builds the morning around that window.
Every closure notice carries the same clause. "Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur."
Fishers, Noblesville and Anderson
Straight-line measures from the same point on the I-69 alignment put Fishers 4.1 miles (6.5 km) away, Noblesville 10.0 miles (16.1 km) and Anderson 24.1 miles (38.7 km).
The project describes the work as support for the future national I-69 corridor. That corridor connects Indianapolis with Fishers, Noblesville, Pendleton, Anderson and other communities.
Southbound I-69 moved into its final configuration on or after Monday, September 21, 2026. That shift restored access to westbound I-465 and southbound Binford Boulevard from the 82nd Street ramp.
Live Restrictions This Week
Five items sit on the project's closure list for the week of September 23. I-465 southbound runs at a single lane between 75th Street and Fall Creek from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on September 23 and 24, and I-465 northbound runs at a single lane between Fall Creek and 75th Street across the same window.
The ramp from 96th Street to southbound I-69 runs at one lane on the night of September 23. On the night of September 24, 82nd Street narrows to one lane in each direction under I-69, and the eastbound I-465 ramp to southbound Binford Boulevard closes.
The ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound Binford Boulevard stays at one lane from mid-September through mid-October for permanent barrier wall installation.
The project signs a detour for closed interchange ramps: eastbound I-465 to southbound I-465 with a turnaround at Pendleton Pike, U.S. 36.
What to Ask Before the Itinerary Is Set
The project publishes no calendar date for the two remaining ramps past late 2026, and it publishes no closure calendar past the rolling weekly list. It states that the speed limit will rise to 65 mph on I-465 and I-69 once construction is complete.
Four items are worth requesting in writing: a closure calendar beyond the current week, a coach load zone for properties inside the work zone, event-night staging guidance, and a drive-time range for the corridor.
