The District and the River
The OneHealth Innovation District sits on the west bank of the White River on the former General Motors Stamping Plant site. The plant opened in the 1930s and closed in 2011. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. bought the 91-acre site in 2020. Downtown Indy lists the redevelopment address as 340 S. White River Pkwy W Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46222.
Elanco Animal Health opened its global headquarters there on October 1, 2025. The three-building campus carries a $200-million-plus price tag: a six-story administration block, a two-story laboratory building and a two-story collaboration building. More than 700 employees work out of it.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. renamed the campus Levee, after the levee along the river's western bank and the Latin root levare. The district has carried the name OneHealth Innovation District since May 2024, when Elanco and Purdue University announced plans to partner on a shared-use facility.
The campus sits close to the riverfront. Straight-line measures taken from OpenStreetMap coordinates put the Indianapolis Zoo at 698 m (0.43 mi), White River State Park at 804 m (0.50 mi) and the Eiteljorg Museum at 1,283 m (0.80 mi). The downtown hotel blocks sit past the river: the JW Marriott Indianapolis at 1,160 m (0.72 mi) and the Indiana Convention Center at 1,319 m (0.82 mi).
The Bridge That Ties It to Downtown
Henry Street is the campus link east to downtown, and it carries a new bridge over the river. The city announced the project at $21.2 million in 2023, and the cost had reached $43 million by 2024, supported by a $15 million grant from Lilly Endowment. The road and an extension of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail connect the campus with roads near Lucas Oil Stadium, and construction is scheduled to finish by early 2027.
The bridge crosses ground with a history. Greenlawn Cemetery was the city's first public burial ground, founded in 1821 and operated until 1890. The city hired an archaeology firm to excavate more than 1,700 grave shafts within the right-of-way, a year-long project that wrapped up in October 2025. The excavation uncovered 19th century artefacts including necklaces, brooches and dolls, and the city is still working on plans to reinter the individuals removed.
The Board of Public Works approved the name Greenlawn Memorial Bridge on July 22, 2026. The rings encircling the bridge are visible.
The Riverfront Anchor
White River State Park runs along both banks of the White River and covers 267 acres. The Indiana General Assembly created the park in 1979, and it is owned by the State of Indiana and operated by the White River State Park Development Commission. The park opens daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 801 West Washington Street, and its own site reports more than 4 million visitors a year.
Seven attractions sit inside the park: the Indianapolis Zoo, White River Gardens, the Indiana State Museum, Victory Field, the Everwise Amphitheater, the NCAA Hall of Champions and the Eiteljorg Museum. The park and the Downtown Canal form the Canal and White River State Park cultural district.
One planned addition is off the schedule. State and city leaders announced a $65 million expansion over 15 acres in late 2024, with green space and an event pavilion. State officials abandoned the expansion on March 11, 2026, citing finances, after the Legislature removed $15 million in funding. Plan the route on the park as it stands.
The Half-Day Route
A workable half day runs west to east, starting at the district and finishing in the downtown hotel blocks.
Start at 340 S. White River Pkwy W Dr. Walk the riverfront path along the park's western bank toward White River State Park, a straight-line 804 m (0.50 mi) from the campus. The Indianapolis Zoo sits 698 m (0.43 mi) away.
Cross the river on the Greenlawn Memorial Bridge. Land in the downtown hotel blocks: the JW Marriott at 0.72 mi and the Indiana Convention Center at 0.82 mi from the campus on straight-line measures. The Westin Indianapolis, Crowne Plaza Union Station, Signia by Hilton Indianapolis, Hyatt Regency, Omni Severin and Le Meridien Indianapolis fall between 0.90 mi and 1.07 mi.
One stop sits on the campus's own parkway. The Biltwell Event Center takes groups at 950 S. White River Parkway West Drive.
What to Confirm Before You Sell It
No published source gives a walking time, a coach load zone or a pedestrian management plan, and the bridge opening date has not been published. Ask the city's Department of Public Works and the district for the trail map, the bridge schedule, the load zone and the closure list.
Ask whether the campus accepts tour groups. Elanco has published no visitor programme or public access rule for the headquarters.
Check the park calendar before a date. The Everwise Amphitheater runs concerts, and the park hosts races and walks inside a 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. window.
The Frame for the Itinerary
The river, the 267-acre park, the canal district and the downtown hotel blocks are open and staffed. The bridge carries a new name and no published opening date. Build the itinerary on the river and the park, and put the district on a confirm-with-the-city list.
