The Campus and the Address
The Indiana University School of Medicine opened its medical education and research building in June 2025 at 350 W. 14th St. The building runs 11 stories and 326,200 gross square feet. It stands west of Senate Avenue and south of the IU Neurosciences Research Center on 16th Street, per the school's 19 October 2022 groundbreaking release.
Inside INdiana Business puts the campus at 44 acres, from 16th Street to 12th Street and from Capitol Avenue to Interstate 65, about eight square blocks. The IU Health hospital under construction there consolidates Methodist and University hospitals.
Where the Downtown Hotel Blocks Sit
The nearest hotel addresses sit south of the corridor. The distances below are straight-line measurements from OpenStreetMap address coordinates, read on 21 September 2026.
The Residence Inn Indianapolis Downtown on the Canal at 350 W. New York St. measures 1,623 m (1.01 mi) from the building. The Courtyard Indianapolis at the Capitol at 320 N. Senate Ave. measures 1,676 m (1.04 mi). The Hilton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites at 120 W. Market St. measures 2,035 m (1.26 mi). The JW Marriott at 10 S. West St. measures about 2,300 m (1.43 mi). The Hyatt Regency at 101 W. Washington St. measures 2,303 m (1.43 mi).
The convention district sits further south. The Indiana Convention Center at 100 S. Capitol Ave. measures 2,596 m (1.61 mi) from the campus. The Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station measures about 2,700 m (1.68 mi). Group inventory concentrates there. Visit Indy counts 12 hotels and 5,200 rooms connected to the Indiana Convention Center. The venue's facility guide counts 4,721 rooms connected by skywalk, 7,175 rooms inside a six-block radius and 4,570 committable group rooms downtown.
IU Health Methodist Hospital at 1701 N. Senate Ave. measures 483 m (0.30 mi) from the education building.
HVS places the medical campus inside the Indy Health District and expects steady weekday demand for extended-stay and midscale hotels from medical professionals, faculty, patients and families, in a downtown market report dated 8 September 2025.
The Red Line Reach
The IndyGo Red Line runs on Capitol Avenue past the campus. The line began service on 1 September 2019 and covers 13.1 miles across 28 stations, with 1,402,365 riders in 2024. The 18th Street station serves IU Health Methodist Hospital. The 14th Street station is the campus stop.
Groups arriving by motorcoach reach the Red Line at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center, 201 E. Washington St. The center opened on 26 June 2016 and holds 19 bus bays.
The Construction a Group Has to Clear
The hospital campus build runs past the 2026 season. IU Health answers its own opening question with December 2027.
Capitol Avenue closed to general traffic between 14th and 16th streets on 20 October 2025 and stayed closed through 7 January 2026, in three phases, for a pedestrian skybridge between the new hospital and a medical office building. Phase one ran to 17 November 2025, with general traffic and IndyGo buses detouring south on Meridian Street and the Red Line and Purple Line stop at 14th Street and Capitol Avenue closed in favour of temporary stops at Meridian and 14th streets. Phase two ran to 7 January 2026 with the southbound Meridian detour in place, Red and Purple line buses back on their normal routes and the 14th Street station reopened. A single southbound lane of Capitol Avenue reopened on 8 January 2026.

The version on that page on 29 July 2026 covers the weeks of 27 July and 3 August, with the impacts carried as image files. Ask the operator for the current sheet rather than the ones this piece lists.
A Routing Plan for a Group Day
Base the group downtown and move north. Both hotel clusters sit south of 16th Street, so a morning run to the campus keeps coach mileage low and leaves the afternoon for the convention district. Hold the Red Line as the fixed link for a small group. The 14th Street station is the campus stop, and the line continues north to the 18th Street station at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Keep through traffic on Meridian Street for the stretch the operator's own notice names. Treat Capitol Avenue between 13th and 16th streets as a work zone.
Book the coach access early. No published source states a load zone, a staging area or a drop-off window for the campus. IU Health takes construction questions at downtownhospital@iuhealth.org.
What to Ask Before You Quote
Ask IU Health for the current two-week look ahead and for the approved coach drop-off and staging plan on the campus. Ask the IU School of Medicine for its visitor programme, its campus calendar and any group tour capacity. Ask Visit Indy for the room blocks nearest the corridor and for the weekday rate range at those properties.
The medical campus carries no published room-night forecast, no monthly count of campus visitors who stay in hotels and no group rate on the corridor. The school's 2025-2026 fact sheet counts 802 medical students in Indianapolis inside a statewide body of 1,459.
