From Late 2027, an Overnight Without a Transfer
The Indianapolis Airport Authority topped out The Westin Indianapolis International Airport on 14 May 2026. The hotel carries 253 rooms on the terminal campus. The authority's releases say a pedestrian passage will connect the hotel directly to the airport's parking garage, which gives guests access to the terminal on foot. The June 2025 groundbreaking release anticipated completion in December 2027. The May 2026 release puts the opening by the end of 2027. Both dates come from the authority, and no reconciliation has been published.
What the Passage Takes Out of the Morning
The hotel sits on airport property. An operator staging a group for an early departure books the last night on the campus, and the group reaches the terminal through the hotel and the garage. The authority's own comparison for the alternative is a 45-minute to an hour drive to a property off the airport, and the same release describes off-airport access as a long commute or less-than-convenient access. That is the gap the authority says the on-campus location addresses.
No walk time from the guest corridor to the terminal is published. Neither release gives a gate distance, an indoor route map or a baggage-drop arrangement at the hotel. The published routing fact is the passage into the parking garage and the seamless terminal access the authority claims for it.
The One-Third of Passengers Who Depart Before Nine
Approximately one-third of passengers flying out of IND depart before 9 a.m., the authority reports. That share is the demand set the hotel was programmed for. The June 2025 release describes the overnight as a time-saving option for travellers before an early morning flight, and the May 2026 release calls the campus location the answer to a long-standing gap for early morning travellers. For a group itinerary the pre-dawn departure is the leg that has to be solved, and the campus address changes which vehicle movement an operator has to schedule.
Building the Overnight Into an Itinerary
The programme the group uses on the ground is a full-service restaurant serving three meals per day, a fitness center, a seventh-floor bar and lounge, approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting space, hotel-specific parking with a valet option, and Marriott Bonvoy benefits for members: free Wi-Fi, discounted rates and points toward free nights, as the authority lists them. A tour operator that wants a briefing room the night before a departure has the meeting space in the programme and no published capacity for it.
Connection Planning and Layover Timing
A traveller holding a long layover reaches a room from the terminal on foot once the hotel opens. The authority publishes no day-use rate, no hourly or transit-room product, no minimum stay and no airline or crew contract for any part of the 253 rooms. An operator planning a layover room confirms the product with the operator, Wischermann Partners. The airport side of the timing is also unpublished: no check-in window, no security wait guidance and no walk time appear in either release, so a group's arrival margin is set by the carrier's own advice.
Construction-Phase Routing on the Campus
The June 2025 release records that construction began with pedestrian pathways rerouted from the Park & Walk and employee parking lots, and that the construction barricade fencing was turned into an art exhibit by Greenfield artist and Red Nose Studio founder Chris Sickels. Any group moving through the airport between the groundbreaking and the opening works from the authority's current campus routing.
The Campus Address and the Milestones
The authority's published postal address for the airport is 7800 Col. H. Weir Cook Memorial Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46241. The milestone sequence in the authority's own releases runs from the board's February 2025 approval of the project and contracts, which set the budget at $205.8 million and ratified the project for bond funding, through the groundbreaking on 12 June 2025 and the topping out on 14 May 2026 to the scheduled opening in late 2027. The authority puts the capital structure at airport general revenue bonds, Marriott key money and an airport equity investment, with no tax dollars.
What the Releases Do Not Publish
No room rate, no group rate and no crew rate appear in either release. Neither document carries a day-use product, a valet price, a first-stay booking date, a share of the 253 rooms held for airline or crew contracts, a room-night forecast attached to the pre-9 a.m. departure share, or a rent and management fee under the operator agreement. The authority publishes the milestone sequence, the building programme and the capital structure.
