The crossing a walker will use
Indy DPW builds a bridge over the White River between Washington Street and Oliver Street. The deck carries two vehicular lanes and a multi-use path for the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The Board of Public Works named it the Greenlawn Memorial Bridge on 22 July 2026, on a recommendation from the project's Community Advisory Group.
DPW's archaeology consultant Stantec excavated 1,709 grave shafts in the city right of way between November 2024 and October 2025. Reinterment plans are in development. DPW lists the bridge and the trail extension for an early 2027 opening.
The loop, start to finish
Enter the district from Harding Street on Innovator Way. Follow the district streets to the river. Cross the new deck on the trail path. Land in White River State Park at 801 West Washington Street. Leave the west bank north on the D Loop to Washington Street. Reverse the loop to start downtown and finish at Oliver Street on the east end of the bridge.
The west-side street work is substantially complete. Innovator Way, previously Henry Street, runs from Harding Street to the relocated South White River Parkway. Holly Avenue connects Oliver Street to Innovator Way. The D Loop runs from Washington Street to South White River Parkway. The relocated parkway meets the D Loop and Oliver Street at Drover Street.
Entry and exit points on both banks
West bank: the park address is 801 West Washington Street, and the park opens daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Biltwell Event Center sits at 950 South White River Parkway West Drive. The Indianapolis Zoo sits at 1200 West Washington Street.
East bank: the bridge lands inside the downtown grid at Oliver Street and Washington Street. The Indiana Convention Center occupies a six-block area to the southeast, and Lucas Oil Stadium sits south of the center.
The trail at both ends
Indianapolis Cultural Trail Inc. counts 10 miles of trail across six cultural districts downtown. The trail office sits at 132 W Walnut St. Seven attractions line the west end of the loop: the Indianapolis Zoo, Victory Field, the IMAX Theater, the Indiana State Museum, the NCAA Hall of Champions, the Eiteljorg Museum and the Everwise Amphitheater.
DPW carries a White River Greenway detour for walkers and cyclists. The detour follows Washington Street, the Cultural Trail along Capitol Avenue, South Street, Missouri Street, McCarty Street and Kentucky Avenue.
